Yuri’s career has included programmatic and organizational leadership roles in human service organizations in Monterey County, New York City, and San Francisco. Before beginning her service with the County, Yuri held the position of Vice President, Community Investments for United Way Monterey County. She is also a founding member of the Bright Futures for Monterey County Educational Partnership.
Yuri is responsible for advising the Supervisor on issues related to public safety, land use, water, and the environment. She is the primary liaison with City Governments in District Four. Supervisor Askew states "Yuri's expertise and experience with the County is critical, especially during the pandemic and economic recovery."
Yuri was born and raised in North Monterey County and is a mother to two children. She currently resides in Marina, California and serves as an elected member of the Monterey Peninsula College Board of Trustees.
Eric is passionate about creating vibrant and healthy communities where people can thrive and find fulfillment. His past work experience includes marketing, development, and community engagement roles with area nonprofits.
Eric is responsible for advising the Supervisor on issues pertaining to health, the County budget, communications, and cannabis. Supervisor Askew states “Eric brings a fresh perspective to the District Four staff. His experience in communications and non-profits will further enhance our team.”
Eric was born and raised in Salinas, California. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Arts Council for Monterey County, Salinas Valley Pride Celebrations, and Community Builders for Monterey County.
Kemar Davis serves as the Executive Assistant and enthusiastically brings his passion for public and community service to the District Four staff. Kemar is an administrative professional that brings a wealth of experience in the public sector and his career has been shaped through his previous roles at City of Seaside, Monterey Peninsula Unified School District, and most recently as a Deputy Court Clerk at Monterey County Superior Court.
Kemar enjoys figuring out what motivates people, finding common ground and getting things done. In his role as Executive Assistant and as a community volunteer, Kemar uses his strengths to build productive relationships and achieve solid results.
In 2016, Kemar relocated to Monterey County from his birthplace of Kingston, Jamaica. He currently serves as the lead technician for audio/video, and technology department at his church, volunteers on a weekly basis with Stepping Stone Outreach, and is pursuing his degree in Business Administration. Kemar is inspired daily by his wife and their daughter. In his free time, Kemar likes to travel, attend comedy shows and play soccer. His personal motto is "Fortis Cadere Cedere Non Potest."
Carlos Hernandez is an intern at The Office of Supervisor Wendy Root Askew. He is currently attending Monterey Peninsula College and is majoring in political science. After MPC, he hopes to attend law school and focus on criminal law. Carlos is passionate towards learning about political injustice, political inequality, as well as disregarded and overlooked political issues that affect the people.
Carlos was born in San Jose, CA and moved to Salinas when he was five years old. Raised in a military and law enforcement family, Carlos has developed resilience in challenging situations, a strong work ethic, and a goal-oriented mind. He is interested in debates regarding controversial political topics, political theory concepts, and the lawmaking process on the local, state, and federal levels. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, raising animals, and being with loved ones.
Edwin Gallegos Reyes, currently interning at The Office of Supervisor Wendy Root Askew, is not enrolled in college at this moment. His career aspirations include becoming a receptionist or a game tester. Edwin is passionate about technology, programming, and enhancing his computer skills. He is known for his responsibility, kindness, and respect towards others.
Born in Mexico, Edwin moved to Seaside, CA at the age of 6. His limited initial exposure to computer technology has fueled his determination to deepen his understanding of computer systems and programming. He is particularly interested in receptionist roles and other positions involving computers. In his free time, Edwin enjoys playing video games with his younger brother, watching movies, creating art, and spending time with his family.
